Change Will Reduce Administration While Improving Co-ordination of Health Services
Today, Health Minister Jim Reiter accepted all of the recommendations of the Saskatchewan Advisory Panel on Health System Structure, and announced the province will consolidate the 12 existing Regional Health Authorities (RHAs) into one single Provincial Health Authority.
Both Whooping cough (pertussis) and Influenza have been identified in students attending schools in the Heartland Health Region. Immunizations are the best way to protect yourself, your family, and those around you from influenza. The Heartland Health Region will begin its seasonal influenza immunization campaign with the first clinics of the season beginning October 31st.

The Sun West School Division, Heartland Health Region and the Drug and Alcohol Awareness Wellness Network (DAWN) are partnering to offer a full day event for grades 7-9 students. This event is called Talking to Youth Live (TTYL). It is an interactive day to educate and create awareness in youth about alcohol and illegal drug use, while networking, learning about healthier alternatives and having fun.

The Parent Mentoring Program of Saskatchewan (PMPS), a home-visiting and early childhood outreach program that provides assistance and support to expectant parents or those parenting newborns to 5 year olds, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month.
Saskatchewan residents and interested organizations are invited to provide feedback to the recently-announced advisory panel examining the restructuring of Saskatchewan’s health care system.
On August 18, the Minister of Health appointed a three person advisory panel to review the current Regional Health Authority (RHA) structure and provide advice on a system with fewer RHAs in Saskatchewan. The panel will also look at services that could be delivered more efficiently and effectively on a provincial scale, examine RHA board governance and accountability, and identify ways to enhance measurement of health system performance.

Dr. Torr, Consulting Medical Health Officer for the Heartland Health Region has lifted the outbreak of gastrointestinal illness in the Outlook and District Health Centre Long Term Care effective August 16, 2016. Visitor restrictions are no longer in place.
Dr. David Torr, Consulting Medical Health Officer for the Heartland Health Region has declared an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness in Long Term Care at the Outlook and District Health Centre Long Term Care effective August 5, 2016. Visitor restrictions are currently in place for Long Term Care in the facility.
